Or you can made a romantic tour on a ship from the ‘Weiße Flotte’ for you – the ‘Weiße Flotte’ is the oldest fleet of paddle steamers in the world. Further up the river Elbe you will reach the wild and romantic landscape of Saxon Switzerland. Or you can visit the magnificent Pillnitz castle. The “Berg- und Wasserpalais” houses the museum of applied arts, which is part of Dresden’s national art collection. Further down the river Elbe you will pass Radebeul and the Karl-May-Museum, which takes you on to the Jagdschloss Moritzburg, the castle which was built on a man-made lake island. In Meißen, the porcelain manufacture, which was opened in 1710, is well worth a visit.
