Further up the river Elbe you will reach the wild and romantic landscape of Saxon Switzerland. Or you can visit the magnificent Pillnitz castle. The “Berg- und Wasserpalais” houses the museum of applied arts, which is part of Dresden’s national art collection. Further down the river Elbe you will pass Radebeul and the Karl-May-Museum, which takes you on to the Jagdschloss Moritzburg, the castle which was built on a man-made lake island. In Meißen, the porcelain manufacture, which was opened in 1710, is well worth a visit.
